[ Curufin is standing on the icy surface of the Hadriel lake, near the wooden shack he built to shelter the hold he hacked in the ice and the people who come there to dip water out of it. Behind him, the tundra plain rolls off into the distance. Above the hills, the sky ripples with mysterious veils of green Northern Lights. There is something uncanny about this backdrop, as though it were simultaneously the ice planet and some other, unknown world. As though the light of another universe was slowly and inexorably trying to leak through. ]
I just wanted to say how much I have enjoyed your company and that of your brother, and how much I will miss you both. You really have been kind to me, and to my family.
[She doesn't understand. Not really. A year and a half in this place and no one has ever really been able to predict that they were leaving. So she just assumes the guy is a little crossfaded and confused. Who hasn't been there before?]

[ Elves of the First Age of Arda tend to have the gift of foresight. In his own world, it mostly warned him of some damned horrible thing that was about to happen, and since it always did happen, he counts his ability as real. But right now, he wishes it was just a case of being confused! ]

[Lup can't quite understand, not without any earlier mention of this power, so she's just going to run on the assumption the elf just got a little too high before calling her.

[ And it would be such a long discussion, to mention his power of foresight or the power that allows him to depart at his will and not by way of the Door. It's too late to begin, and besides, he'd rather joke and be affectionate while there is time. ]
