I have actually considered writing a dissertation on the race- and gender views expressed in novelizations of licensed D&D campaigns and how they differ across campaign settings and their various social systems, but I’m getting the feeling your question was in jest.

Lup's responses are surprising enthusiastic while he explains, engaging in a way he's likely never seen from her in class, but then as the conversation starts to die down, she just disappears. Clearly she's not a "goodbye, talk to you later!!" type of girl. Instead, she just leaves conversations hanging, leaving them easy to slip right back into them without looking desperate or needing to redo awkward hellos.

Which is exactly what she does.

By the time Barry comes home from school the next day, her profile pic has already been changed to a different picture of her, and it only takes a few moments of him being online before her messages start dinging in.]

[It’s a weird way to communicate. Barry is so used to chatting with people many years his senior on forums and BBSes, all with a more formal air over their messages, proper grammar and introductions and goodbyes. But despite sitting in front of his screen for a good twenty minutes waiting for a response that never came, a part of him finds it almost silly how easy it was, IMing with Lup. Literally the most popular girl in school.

That thought doesn’t strike him until halfway through the school day. It makes it very hard to concentrate on his work.
