[Lup's preoccupied and doesn't get back to Barry until at least an hour later. It's all a little weird, but it's Barry. What's the worst that could be going on with the boys out of town?]
[Every other reply had ticked in very quickly, like Barry was sitting there staring at his phone, thumbs ready to type a reply. This time, it takes sixteen minutes for Barry to respond.]
[The timing is just as off as everything else, but Lup's own response comes quickly, even as she's already pulling herself up to leave. Something's going on at home and she can't just let the issue sit. Maybe Barry's feeling sick and just coming off as a dick on accident??]
[lup may be talented in a lot of areas, but she's never been the one to just let a fight drop without getting the last word in. She's pulling pulling a shirt over her head and still refusing to let go of her phone, typing right back at him.]
im on my way just chill out what the fucks going on?? is this a bit? am i missing the joke? or is this taako? i stg if its taako im going to shove your fucking umbrella where the double suns dont shine
[It takes the woman a little over thirty minutes to get away from Lucretia's and finally arrive home, the elf too caught up in her thoughts to even notice the gentle buzzing of the phone in her back pocket. It's only when she finally steps up to the front door that she checks, scrolling down the long list of notifications, her mouth pressed into a thin line when she pushes the front door open.]
[As Lup enters, Barry is right there in front of her, jolting to attention as the door swings open almost close enough to hit him in the face. His eyes are wide as they shoot up from his phone and lock on to her, almost frantic, pupils panicked pinpricks, his breath coming in short bursts.
Once he's sure it's her, that she's really here, finally home with him again, his brows knit together in a tight frown. There's still concern on Barry's face, fear, a flash of relief, but it gets harder to spot behind the foreign rage that starts overtaking it.]
[Alright. That checks Taako stealing Barry's phone off of her list. Lup is still no closer to knowing what the hell is going on.
The elf is well annoyed at having her afternoon plans interrupted, but the worry in Barry's expression leaves Lup with a growing pit at the bottom of her belly. What the hell was he so worried about in the first place? She'd been just as safe at Lucretia's as she'd been here. If anything, making her walk home all tipsy was probably the most unsafe thing she could have done.
Before she can dive too deeply into the whys there, the man's expression was shifting, twisting into the kind of look that Lup's not certain she's ever seen on Barry's sweet face before. They've fought in the past enough, sure, and it wasn't always just Lup screaming, but he's never looked at her with that kind of unbridled rage before. Especially not when she hasn't actually done anything to deserve it.]
I told you. [Lup's eyes remain locked on Barry for a lingering few seconds before she's dropping her gaze down to her feet, where she takes her time kicking off her shoes. Knowing her as well as he does, Barry would be able to pick up on Lup deliberately prolonging things just because he seems to want her to rush. That's probably why it took her so long getting home too.] I was drinking. Havin' fun. Just took me a little longer to get over the bridge.
[He's almost snarling at her, his tone harsh, his words unfair. Barry can't help it. Ever since he woke up this morning, this awful feeling has been gnawing at him incessantly, a steady flow of intrusive thoughts interrupting his work. Assumptions, insecurities, suspicions he'd dismissed as completely ridiculous months ago that suddenly seemed all too real to him.
Lup has been spending a lot of time with Lucretia lately.
It was something he'd welcomed last month, when Lucretia returned to Hadriel and was once again refused a place in the home they all shared. Barry loves Lucretia like a sister, always has, and he knows Lup does the same. The two of them were always so close, being the only two women on the ship. Time and distance hadn't changed that. He'd wanted Lucretia to have a friend around, to have someone she could depend on. But now... all of a sudden it feels like something much less innocent is going on.
He can just tell. And he can't tolerate that.
His eyes narrow as he watches Lup's movements, deliberately slow, as even as she can make them in her state. Barry knows she's doing it to piss him off. Holding his gaze like that, making a show out of toeing out of her shoes, completely nonchalant and uncaring. How dare she? He'd been so worried about her, so scared she was going behind his back, and she completely disregards him like this? She's rubbing it in his face.]
Y'stayed behind on purpose. Right? 'Cause y'were with her?
[It's a game Lup's basically an expert in. As quick as she can be to rise to anger most of the time, she's just as good at throwing up walls and playing distantly aloof, mouth pressed into a line while she meets his burning gaze with a look of absolute disinterest. It had been a tactic Lup used so much more earlier on into their relationship, when Barry's feelings for her were still so terrifyingly new, when she could look into his eyes and the depth of love she saw there was just too much.
But they'd grown past that decades upon decades ago. Barry's impossible love for Lup doesn't scare the woman anymore.
--At least, she didn't think it did. But the unnatural snarl at his lips right now, the jealousy dripping from his tone, it all makes Lup want to take a step back, to put a little distance between them for the first time in half a century.
But she stays where she is, too stubborn to move, gently toeing off her shoe before she's raising her chin to meet his gaze. Lup's trying for aloof, but the irritation that twists at her lips at his implication is too obvious.]
Are you trashed? [Instead of stepping away, Lup sweeps forward, a hand moving to Barry's shoulder to give him a little push towards the stairs, like he's a grumpy toddler who just needs a nap to feel better.] I hang out with Luce all the time. This isn't new. Don't get all paranoid on me, Barold. It's not very attractive.
[Lup gives him a little shove, insinuates he's drunk, doing nothing but fueling the anger boiling in the pit of his stomach. She's not even taking this seriously. Barry reaches up to swat her hand away, maybe a little harder than he'd intended - but what did she expect? He's pissed. She's clearly aware of it.]
Yeah. Y'do hang out with Lucretia all th'time. All th'fuckin' time, Lup. Am I supposed t'not have a problem with that?
[He hadn't had a problem with that. It's a fleeting thought, dancing at the periphery of his mind, over much too soon. This is the first time he's had any real suspicions, any honest doubt about Lup's intentions. If only he could grasp on to that thought, realize how ridiculous he sounds, recognize that these feelings are false, this rage has been planted...
But he doesn't. He stands up straighter, shoulders squared, not intent on letting her push him around again.] You looked me dead in the eye when I got here and swore y'were never with her. And th'second she comes back, you're all over her. Which is it, Lup?
