She's tired of waking up and finding someone else is gone. It's selfish and stupid, when Kate so badly wants to return to her own world, but this never stops being exhausting. She can never stop letting her guard down, never stop becoming complacent about the presence of the people she comes to care about.

Why ask them to adapt to something as jarring as her world probably is to a person who's never seen a Creature or experienced the unspoken divisions between humans and superhumans? How would it even work? She doubts the Door is about to hand out identities and papers to each person who goes to a new universe. )
[Lup doesn't drag the other woman in for a strong hug, doesn't cradle her like a child, but she does slide close enough for their thighs to touch, for the elf's hand to slip over Kate's. It's the barest of touches compared to what someone like Drake would do, but even without fulling knowing just how bad the situation is, Lup knows Kate will appreciate this so much more than a bunch of tears or dramatics. That isn't what she came to Lup for.]

[On one hand, Lup gets it. Folks popping in and out of Hadriel without notice is exhausting. She hates losing these deep connections she's made, hates just waking up one day and finding someone she's talked to almost daily for the last two years to just be gone. But there's also the part of her who's had more than enough practice with this, over a hundred years of meeting amazing people only to lose them at the end of the year. She thinks it makes all of this easier to handle, thinks it may make her a little more immune.
Lup will find out soon enough how wrong that is. But that's a future problem.

And, had it been anyone else who disappeared, Kate might have agreed with it. She might have been able to shrug it off with a few nights drinking and distraction, but losing Ignis was never going to be that simple, especially now, when bits of him are so completely woven into every part of her day. Visits and thoughts, messages, meals, bits and pieces scattered around her house and the awareness that some of her own clothes are stashed somewhere in his apartment.
She'll have to get them, eventually. Or maybe just leave them to whatever eventual changes happen, find something new in the stores. )

But saying that means nothing. She'd be cruel to dangle that hope in front of Kate's face just to see it snatched it away if he doesn't return. And that's not what Kate wants right now anyway.
